Traditional musicianship
meets futuristic techniques, creating a
fresh sound.
4onefunk has paved their way in the US,
Europe, South America, and Asia. With growing
respect in the hip-hop dj genre, they have
also gained a place in the jazz community
through their live application of melodic
and tonal principals on a truly modern instrument:
the turntable.
Originating from the San Francisco Bay Area,
this group formed in 2002. Members B-Cause,
Mista B, Max Kane, and Teeko have released
award winning mix tapes such as the ingenious Super
Disco Hyphy by B-Cause as well as collaborative
mix with Max Kane Night of the Remix.
In the days of Scratch DJ competitions, they
won numerous local, national, and world championship
awards. Teeko’s debut album My
SoundStation gained #1 on the CMJ chart
and is also recipient of the Innovative Producers
award from Berklee College of Music in 2006.
Collaborative projects with live musicians
and turntabalists such as The 4OneFunk Band
and The Dollar Bin Quintet are unique and
progressive.
Players involved include Monophonics' Colin
Brown [keys], Austin Bohlman [drums], and
Ian McDonald [guitar]. Also Alphabet Soup's
Kenny Brooks [sax], and Jay Lane [Drums]
as well as Adam Theiss [trombone, bass],
Pat Korty [drums] and members of the Jazz
Mafia.
2008 will be a big year for 4OneFunk. Their
next venture is the introduction of The Vestax
Controller One: first turntable engineered
to be a musical instrument. Designed by Ricci
Rucker, Dstyles, Mike Boo and Teeko, it features
pitch changing buttons corresponding to scale
degrees and MIDI. Not yet manufactured in
the US, it's a formative time for a truly
new instrument and 4OneFunk is on the cutting
edge, carrying the torch.
