Buchanan High School Jazz Band 'A'

Third Place (Tie) at the 2017 Next Generation Jazz Festival High School Big Band Division

Founded by Paul Shaghoian in 1991, the Buchanan High School jazz program in Clovis, California, has been on the forefront of student jazz ensembles in the state. The premier ensemble in this program is the Jazz Ensemble ‘A’ , under the direction of Paul Lucckesi.

The BHS 'A' band has performed throughout California and at the prestigious 50th, 51st, and 57th Monterey Jazz Festival. The group has also performed for many educators and jazz fans at jazz conferences in California, Atlanta, Georgia, and New York City. Through the San Joaquin Valley Jazz Festival, as the featured performing group, the Buchanan ‘A’ Band has shared the stage with finest jazz musicians in the world including, Brian Lynch, Michael Davis, Tim Ries, Terell Stafford, Alan and Mark Ferber and the group Kneebody. The Jazz Ensemble has consistently garnered national attention by earning accolades in DownBeat Magazine's Student Music Awards seven times.
