Winner of the College Vocal Ensemble Division at the 2018 Next Generation Jazz Festival

The Gold Company program at Western Michigan University, having just turned 40, is excited to kick off the next 40 years with a debut performance at the world-famous Monterey Jazz Festival.  

Gold Company, part of the innovative Jazz Studies program at WMU, maintains an active performance schedule throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. This past year Gold Company performed with MOSS, the New York Voices, Kurt Elling and toured California, where they placed first at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival, earning the invitation to the Monterey Jazz Festival. In 2015, Gold Company received the honor of headlining at the Jazz Education Network Conference in San Diego, California. 

The Jazz Studies program has earned over 160 DownBeat awards since 1984, consistently ranking it among the top three collegiate award winners in the nation since. Over 75 of those awards have been earned by Gold Company and members of the Gold Company program.  

Gold Company is comprised of undergraduate and graduate students whose majors range from jazz studies to vocal performance, music education, music therapy and more. Graduates of the program are currently working everywhere from Broadway to Hollywood, touring with artists such as Stevie Wonder, Michael Buble, Sheryl Crow, Meatloaf, Sting, and Liza Minnelli, as well as working in production, composition and arranging, music publishing and music education. Gold Company graduates also currently lead the nation’s top collegiate vocal jazz programs.

Gold Company has enjoyed a multitude of guest artists over the past several years. Recent guest artists include MOSS, the New York Voices, Chico Pinheiro, Sunny Wilkinson, Kate Reid, Deborah Brown, Kate McGarry, Keith Ganz, Peter Eldridge, Matt Aronoff, Theo Bleckmann, Sara Gazarek, Josh Nelson, Bobby McFerrin, Gretchen Parlato, Eliane Elias, the Manhattan Transfer, Take Six, the Real Group, Curtis Stigers, Luciana Souza, and many others.
