At right: The 2015 poster designed and illustrated by Chris Gutendorf of Portland, Oregon. Chris’ stunning poster was our selection for this year’s Festival.
Showcasing 50 years of Monterey Jazz Festival images, The Art of Jazz tells the story of the Festival through its graphic imagery and photographic moments, capturing the experience through posters, program covers, and exclusive photographs dating back to 1958. Released in 2007, The Art of Jazz includes a list of artists who have performed at the Festival, along with a decade-by-decade look at the world and the Festival. The Art of Jazz is available in three editions: the Retail Edition, the Gift Edition, and the Limited Edition. Own a piece of Monterey history!
Ever since 1958, the Monterey Jazz Festival has recorded almost all of its Arena performances, leaving us a true legacy, a living history of jazz. In conjunction with Concord Records, the Festival has issued 13 CDs of these rare and rarefied recordings on our own label, the GRAMMY®-winning Monterey Jazz Festival Records, with more exciting titles due for release this year and in years to come. These concert performances have never been available before, and they truly capture Monterey’s favorite artists at their best -- including historic sets from Louis Armstrong, Art Blakey and the Giants of Jazz, Dave Brubeck, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Shirley Horn, Thelonious Monk, Cal Tjader, Tito Puente & His Orchestra, Sarah Vaughan, Jimmy Witherspoon featuring Robben Ford, the GRAMMY-winning 50th Anniversary All-Stars, Dave Holland's "Monterey Quartet," and more!
