The legendary Quincy Jones is known world-wide as the producer of Michael Jackson’s Thriller, the world’s best-selling album, and “We Are the World,” the best-selling single of all time. But more than a decade earlier, Quincy released a series of albums for A&M that would combine pop, soul, jazz, and rock creating a GRAMMY-winning template for nearly every recording artist that would follow.

Celebrate these trendsetting records at the 59th Monterey Jazz Festival on Friday night, September 16 at this exclusive event you won’t see anywhere else. MJF board member Clint Eastwood will introduce Quincy Jones who will in turn introduce this remarkable performance.

With a cast hand-selected by Quincy Jones, musical director Christian McBride and MJF artistic director Tim Jackson, the tribute features the world’s top jazz artists revisiting Walking in Space, Gula Matari, and Smackwater Jack, including original participants Dave Grusin, Hubert Laws, and Valerie Simpson, with contemporary masters Sean Jones, Grégoire Maret, James Carter, Lewis Nash, and Paul Jackson Jr.

There will be special appearances by bassist and vocalist Richard Bona and pianist Alfredo Rodriguez; as well as the Monterey Jazz Festival Orchestra, directed by John Clayton.
